Privacy policy
Dated 3 October 2026. ExpenseMe, operated by Sarfaraaz Kara, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
This page explains what ExpenseMe collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read.
What ExpenseMe is
ExpenseMe is a budgeting app for your phone. It saves every entry you log to a Google Sheet in your own Google Drive. The sheet is the real copy of your data. We do not keep your entries in our own database.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work.
- Your Google account email and name, so we know who you are when you sign in.
- The id of the one spreadsheet ExpenseMe creates for you, so the app can find it again.
- The entries you type. These live in your spreadsheet, not with us.
- Receipt photos, if you scan one. A photo is read once to pull out the amount, shop, date and category, and then discarded. We never store it.
- Tips the app has written for you and your health score. We store them so the screen opens quickly.
- The email addresses of people you invite to your household.
- A notification subscription, if you turn notifications on, so we can send a reminder to your phone. We also keep a record of each notification sent, which includes the name of the bill a reminder was about.
- A short activity log of changes made through the app, such as inviting or removing someone.
- An offline copy of your entries on your phone, so the app works without a signal. It stays there until you sign out.
- Billing records, if you buy Plus. These are held by Stripe. We store only your Stripe customer id and subscription id.
Google data
ExpenseMe asks Google for the drive.file permission. It lets ExpenseMe open only the files it created itself. It cannot see or open anything else in your Drive.
We store a refresh token, encrypted, so the app can keep your sheet current without asking you to sign in each time. The token is never sent to your browser.
ExpenseMe's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Where data lives
The services that handle your data are:
- Supabase, in Canada, holds your account, your household settings and usage counts.
- Vercel hosts the app.
- Stripe takes payment and holds billing records.
- Anthropic produces the answers for the features that use AI. When you scan a receipt, we send the photo. When you ask a question, we send the entries (date, type, category, shop and amount) from the months you pick. When the app writes tips, we send the month's totals, your category names and your top shops with their totals. Anthropic processes this to produce the answer and does not keep it to train its models.
- Google holds your spreadsheet in your Drive.
What we never do
We never sell your data. We never read other files in your Drive. We never show ads.
Your choices
You can disconnect ExpenseMe from Google at any time on your Google account's security page. The app will stop being able to reach your sheet.
You can delete your account from the Settings screen. That removes everything we hold about you. Your sheet stays in your Drive, and it is still yours.
Children
ExpenseMe is not for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and add a note to What's new.
